Yoga, meditation and mindfulness made their epic entrance into my life 10 years ago, while I was studying in England. The effects Yin yoga had on the spaciousness in my body and mind, my energy levels and overall sense of fulfillment, was unimaginable. It was obvious, yet I couldn’t wrap my head around it. What was happening here?
A holistic Yin Yoga teacher training, soothed my eager mind as I gradually began to understand the what’s and how’s of anatomy and Chinese medicine: the basis of a Yin practice. Here it was. One of those golden moments where my mind and body collided and my experience finally made sense…
Not long after, I hopped on a new adventure: a Strala teacher program with Tara Stiles. A hidden gem that has truly enriched both my own practice and my guidance. I discovered the immense effectiveness of softness, gentleness, playfulness and moving with ease, as opposed to force, perfection and striving. I had always disliked feeling obliged to hop along the pace of the group in yoga class, or being pushed deeper into a ‘perfect’ yoga shape. I was often questioning myself whether I was ‘doing it right’. And that made me more concerned with the yoga shape than my own body. Strala confirmed my gut feeling: this yoga stuff, there must be another way!
Exploring movement and stillness can actually be fun! You can be creative and make it your own. After all: you’re the only one who is you.
